If your loved one is under medical care, their provider is supposed to follow the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), Public Law 104-191 for consent rules to share a patients medical records, including with family members. I have attached a sample HIPA consent Form from the American Bar association for your resource. Make sure your loved one has included you as eligible to receive your medical information and update as required.
