Paul M. Renfro, “Stranger Danger: Family Values, Childhood, and the American Carceral State” (Oxford UP, 2020) in this new book about the hyperbole surrounding the Strange Danger panic in the 1980’s. Child abductions, kidnappings, assaults, and murder have been blown out of all proportions in this author’s research of the subject. Unfortunately for American liberty, these phenomenon have for worse directed the political response to this perceived threat to children.
